Tips

  • Know Before You Go
Look for the landmark windmill on the side of the freeway. That's your exit.
  • Fun Fact
The Flower Fields are actually the only working rununcula field in the world that's open to the public, and those big blooms we all oh and ah over are actually left to over-bloom. They look prettier that way.
  • The Extras
Check out the special Canon Photography Workshop, the Kids Day and other themes events throughout the spring.

An annual day trip for us!

My husband and I make an annual trip to the Carlsbad Flower Fields in the Spring. As the years have gone by, it's become more and more crowded with sadly less and less acreage. Despite that, we drive from LA just so see the hills become living rainbows of color. Their rose garden has been enlarged and during the Spring it's not only lovely to see but it smells great...unlike the ranunculus that grow on the hills. We'll roam the fields together or apart...just taking photos of whatever catches our eyes. Of course...one of the big attractions for us is not even officially the Flower Fields...but literally...the Strawberry Fields that are just across the street. You can grab baskets and pick your own...our just buy them from the stand. Usually by the time we get home from the Flower Fields, we've gone through at least 3 baskets...and I'm complaining that I ate too many. What can I say? Tradition is Tradition.

Cons: parking gets crazy if you don't get there early
